Strengthening Churches
We at CMAI give great emphasis on studying the interface and interrelationship between
theology and medicine. We are actively involved in exploring the relationship between
faith and healing and in helping Christian healthcare workers to put their faith in practice, wherever they may be. We believe that the greatest good to the greatest number of people can spring from this bedrock of belief and its sensitive application to the field of medicine.
We have been promoting the Church’s understanding of health, healing and wholeness. Our areas of focus are :
- Increasing knowledge levels about faith and healing among diverse groups.
- Incorporating the subject of health, healing and wholeness in the curricula of theological colleges.
- Publishing articles and opinions on this issue in Church and Christian magazines.
- Assisting churches to develop sustainable policies on the ministry of healing.
We have instituted regular events which take this mission forward. These are :
Healing Ministry Celebrations: The celebrations are held in the second week of February every year. This healing ministry week and Sunday celebrations are designed to be occasions when healthcare professionals reflect on their commitment to the healing ministry. They rededicate their efforts to this person-centred and holistic ministry of Christ.
Congregations in Healing: We have been working with congregations for the past five years to help them find a new meaning to their faith. The objectives are to reach communities that have no access to healthcare; to expose the Church to the concerns of the poor and underprivileged; and to demonstrate the power of participation.
Strengthening the Concept: We inculcate and strengthen the concept and practices of holistic care in mission institutions, through dialogues and mentoring visits.
