Building Leaders

One of our principal roles is to build and nurture all Christian health professionals, enhancing their knowledge, skills and values. The aim is to orient them towards ‘person-centric compassionate care’.

We are also involved in enabling and motivating them to make significant contributions to the health of the community they serve and at a macro level, the health of the entire nation. We support and encourage health professionals to sustain their interest and commitment towards working with the poor and underprivileged strata of our society.

Our activities include :

Formal Training

The Christian Academy of Medical Science (CAMS) offers a multi-disciplinary three-year postgraduate residency programme (equivalent to an MD) in family practice and conducted by the teaching faculties of the Christian Medical College, Vellore, the Miraj Medical Centre and the Christian Medical College, Ludhiana.

In nursing education, GNM, ANM, DNEA, CGCC are conducted through the two boards of nursing education recognised by the Indian Nursing Council. These are the Mid India Board of Nursing with 17 nursing schools and one post-basic nursing training school; and the Board of Nursing Education South India Branch with 33 schools of nursing.

The Central Board (CEB) of the CMAI conducts formal training programmes for Allied Health Professionals and Chaplains in the areas of:

  • Medical Laboratory Technology (including histopathology)
  • Medical Radiation Technology (including radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine technologies)
  • Medical Records Technology
  • Anesthesiology Technology
  • Addiction Counselling
  • Ophthalmic Technology
  • Electrophysiology and Pulmonology Technology
  • Podiatric Technology
  • Clinico-Pastoral Counselling for chaplains

The CEB also runs a one-year postgraduate diploma in Pastoral Healing Ministry for Chaplains.

Short Duration Training Programmes

For Chaplains, a one-month comprehensive training programme is conducted annually.

Capacity-building workshops are held at regular intervals for Doctors, Nurses, Administrators, Allied Health Professionals and Chaplains.

Special focus areas in recent times have been :

  • Rational Drug Use
  • Palliative Care
  • Strategic Planning
  • Family Life Education
  • Pharmacy Management
  • Financial / Hospital Management
  • Management for Nurses

We also hold seminars, conferences and consultations on topics related to contemporary issues.

Student Nurture Programmes

Students of medicine, dentistry, nursing and allied health are taken to mission fields and Christian hospitals, with the aim of sensitizing them through exposure to these environments. Retreats and special meets for students are also organized.
