Pharmaceutical industry in India also plays a major role in this as it induces doctors and hospitals to prescribe irrational and unnecessary drugs. The recent policies are directed towards making health a commodity that will worsen the situation in the future.

Cost is an important deterrent to access to medicines. CMAI is concerned about the impact of recent changes in Indian patent system from process patent to product patent.
