Despite being signatory to Alma Atta declaration, the goal of ‘health for all’ remains elusive to most Indians. The marginalised and poorer sections of the society suffer the major burden of diseses and death. Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, a national coalition of health related large networks and NGOs [CMAI is one of the 18 founding members] has initiated a political and legal process to demand basic healthcare as a fundamental right of every citizen guaranteed under Indian constitution

As part of the campaign, along with National Human Rights Commission five regional public hearings and a national public hearings were held in different parts of the country.
