Sex selection

The latest national census of 2001 revealed the shocking picture of declining child sex ratio of the country. The main reason for the declining child sex ratio is the strong patriarchal values of certain society leading to strong son preference. The situation requires an urgent need to change the mindset of our society. CMAI can make a significant impact if we can ensure the involvement of our members and churches and other Christian agencies in the grassroots advocacy to change the value of girl children in the society.

 

The primary objective is to enthuse our partners to involve in grassroots advocacy

  • Campaign in a Jabalpur city

    Urban Jabalpur in Madya Pradesh state is one of the areas in the country that have shown significant drop in the child sex ratio over the last decade. Policy Advocacy and Research Group and Women’s Desk of CMAI has been working with Christian Organisations and Leaders on the issue of declining child sex ratio in the city.


  • Study to assess the trend and correlates of sex ratio at birth

To strategize and sustain the national campaign against sex selection, sex specific information of the childbirth is required. CMAI in association with the Office of the Registrar General, Government of India has undertaken a study to assess the trend and correlates of sex ratio at birth (SRB) of hospitalised deliveries of the state of Delhi. The study provides very new insights into the problems of sex selection in the state of Delhi The report of the study is finalised. The report was disseminated through various national and regional media.



  • Dialogue with selected potential partners to take it up

The campaign against sex selection needs broad participation of civil society. So the policy has been undertaking dialogue strategic partner.
